Laura’s Birth Story

Birth story Laura and Evie

Hi Lainey, I’ve had a whirlwind 24 hours. Gave birth yesterday after a very quick labour. Got to the hospital just in time and within 38 mins Baby was here!

A little girl weighing 6lb 6oz. Utter happiness 💖Giving birth second time around was a much more positive experience - I felt more confident and I trusted that my body knew what to do. I’m pleased to say that I had the birth I wanted (with my first birth I had pre - eclampsia and had to be induced and have an epidural meaning I gave birth lying on my back and pushed for what felt like forever).

With this birth, contractions started around 10pm on Wednesday. They were very manageable - I bounced on the ball, did yoga, rested, watched tv, ate lots of cake! Around 4 am they started to ramp up so I got into bed with my toddler and snuggled into him. Cuddles with my toddler calmed the discomfort from the contractions and I immediately felt more relaxed - my contractions went from 6 mins apart to 11 mins as I became so relaxed. My toddler must have sensed something was going on as in his sleep he rested his hand on me and stroked my skin.

It was most surprising and magical how my toddler eased the pain of my contractions. I actually fell asleep through the contractions because he was so gentle and calming. I almost forgot I was in labour. I am so indebted to him!

At around 7am they ramped up again and at 5 mins apart we headed to the hospital. I arrived at the hospital at 11am, after a few pushes Baby Evie flew out at 11:38am. Unfortunately my husband missed the birth as he was stuck in the hospital car park que with our toddler and my Mum was stuck at Dublin airport trying to get a taxi. We are all laughing about it now!

The confidence I gained from yoga and from reading The Positive Birth Book, and the support of the amazing midwives who trusted me to take charge of my labour made the whole experience so positive and happy.

We are absolutely delighted Evie Rose is safely with us and are enjoying getting to know each other 💖
